Henri d’Origny curated Hermès’ Cape Cod timepiece back with a fresh take

Jewelry & Watches

If you happen to be a watch aficionado, I am certain the Hermès’ Cape Cod Collection has caught your attention over the years. Since the past 25 years, the Henri d’Origny curated-timepiece collection manifests true discipline combined with a bold approach. Fast forward to 2017, the Parisian luxury brand brings you a fresh take on the Cape Cod collection.

If you’re a keen observer of the technicalities; visualize an opaque black DLC-treated 29 x 29 mm case, embedded in brushed 316L steel, a matt black dial with rhodium-plated raised Arabic numerals and ruthenium-coated hands, a stunning black Barenia calfskin strap, finished with red-burnished edges and a matte black DLC-treated brushed steel buckle.

Conclusion: Hermès’ Cape Cod is a robust male timepiece, ageless and perfect as his day-to-day comrade. Inculcated with a high precision quartz calibre, this watch sets the hours and minutes with the prestigious Swiss Made stamp.

Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Ref. 5320G is inspired by historic references

Jewelry & Watches

Applied gold Arabic numerals and sharp-tipped luminous hands (a reminiscence of the Ref. 1463 chronograph from the 1950s), a slender sweep seconds hand, and the crisply graduate seconds scale assure excellent legibility. The case has step details on the bezel and case-mid right down to the grooved lugs, which looks like a combination of ref. 3449 and ref. 2405. The timepiece is driven by the calibre 324 S Q (S stands for seconds, Q for quantième perpétuel). The moon phases will require a correction by one day only every 122 years and the power reserve is minimum 35, maximum 45 hours. The vintage-style case is 40mm in diameter and available in only 18K white gold. The Perpetual Calendar arrives on a shiny chocolate brown alligator strap with large square scales secured with a deployant buckle in white gold and is priced at $82,784 USD.

Tiffany & Co. ropes in Reed Krakoff for its new accessories and homeware collection

Jewelry & Watches

The new collection at Tiffany’s will retain its original touch with Krakoff adding his creative twist to it. So purchasing out of the new collection will come with the added creative touches of Krakoff without compromising on the feel of being a Tiffany product. Though jewelry and watches will not be a part of his kitty, Krakoff will add his creative inputs to the remaining range of products including handbags, sunglasses, tabletops, and apparel and writing accessories and design director Francesca Amfitheatrof will simultaneously continue to work on the jewelry and watch line. Both Krakoff and Amfitheatrof will report to Tiffany CEO, Frederic Cumenal.

This is not the first time the brand has included an outside creative partner on its collection. Early this year, Tiffany also welcomed former creative director at Vogue, Grace Coddington on board. The collection which is a semi deviation from its line of established products is set to launch in 2017. Will the partnership between the two continue post the launch, is for time to tell. For now this sensational amalgamation of design minds looks intriguing and something to watch out for!

Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso One High Jewelry a shiny timepiece for the ladies

Jewelry & Watches

LeCoultre Reverso (4)

Jaeger-LeCoultre has unveiled a reincarnation of its 1931 Reverso model of watches which was at the time considered an icon in watch-making. The Reverso One High Jewelry comes studded with a bevy of baguette-cut diamonds, protecting a mother-of-pearl dial. The beauty of the watch is its Duetto concept offers a different display on the back – a deep black aventurine dial with diamonds outlining the hour and minutes indicator. This “back-to-back” dial offers the watch a mysterious appeal and a dual personality.

LeCoultre Reverso (2)
The Reverso was created by French designer René-Alfred Chauvot on the request on a contract with Jaeger SA, who was contacted by Jacques-David LeCoultre, the then owner of the LeCoultre manufacture to provide the “movements of a new watch”. LeCoultre received this request from Swiss businessman and watch collector César de Trey who was challenged by a British army officer based in India to “create a watch model robust enough to resist to a polo match.” So what eventually started as a project to prove worth ended up being a revolutionary fashion statement. At the time, in the 30s, the Reverso with its unique flip and slip movement became a raging hit.

Linda Farrow Debuts Record-Price Luxury Sunglasses

Jewelry & Watches

Luxury fashion has always been out of comfortable reach for most fashion consumers, and now eyewear label Linda Farrow has made a move that widens the gap further. Imagine tossing on a pair of stylish, luxury shades to block out the sun on a hot summer day – now imagine those sunglasses costing you $32,000. Now, this is no hypothetical situation; that is the cost for the most expensive pair of sunglasses in Linda Farrow’s new three-piece collection for Lane Crawford. This marks the most expensive product ever created by the brand.

Linda Farrow for Lane Crawford Gold Sunglasses 2016

Calling these sunglasses a luxury product is an understatement, as the golden aviators are made with 18-karat yellow gold, with 24-karat gold lenses, and white diamonds to add even more pizazz. This is the $32,000 pair, as mentioned above. But, the other two pieces in this small collection are more “affordable,” with a white gold pair of aviators with platinum lenses coming in at $11,000 and a rose gold pair of circular-lensed shades for $8,700.

“Even though they’re very expensive, it’s somewhat value for money,” said Simon Jablon, creative director of Linda Farrow. “You are buying gold, you are buying diamonds, the craftsmanship on top of the design and everything that goes behind it.”

According to Jablon, a huge priority for the label is to expand its presence in the global store network over the course of this year. You can now find Linda Farrow locations in the IFC mall in Hong Kong and in Forte dei Marmi in Italy, which is a result of such expansion plans, but the brand is also moving to double its footprint on the global market, by erecting a total of 14-15 stores in this year alone, according to Jablon.

“It’s an aggressive expansion for us; we’re still an independent company,” as he put it. If nothing else, this bold move will draw a lot of attention to the brand. Getting people talking is the first step in establishing a greater global presence, and I’d say Linda Farrow is well on its way to being recognized just about anywhere. This will open doors for more storefronts and presence in new nations and locations; plus, those who are willing and able to front the money for a pair will be given an extremely high quality product.

The Linda Farrow for Lane Crawford sunglasses collection was made available this past Thursday, and will be available only through the month of May. Those who order the designs will be able to customize them to suit their preferences – such as one might expect when paying so much for a pair of sunglasses; why shouldn’t they be perfect
